playtime :)

 

after a week of all-work/no-play, i was ready for the weekend...

 

a week of vacation at cape cod, followed by a week of catching up at work meant the house was dirty.   luckily for me, joey thinks he's the better housecleaner.  he likes to give me instructions, and demonstrations, on how i should clean stuff.  as annoying as that can be at times, i am not a fool.  my housework gets done by mr. know-it-all and we're both happy with the results :)

 

so saturday morning, i went to the river and took pics. lots of pics. then i played with the pics almost all day.

 

on sunday morning, i ran to the park, before enduring my weekly cleaning lesson...i helped with some housework and then played with pics for the rest of the day. 

 

joey and i both thought it was pretty much a perfect weekend. 

am i a lucky girl or what?

as beautiful as it is, i bet they didn't get playtime over the weekend....

i love the snow, when it clings to the branches.

foggy weekend...

the weather has been spring-like all week.  and with snow still on the ground, it made for a foggy weekend...
after the week from hell at work, a little fog to slow things down was a very good thing...

 

 

 

 

 

explore...

my word for 2013 is explore...

i am excited about it, it already has made an impact and it feels like it could make me stretch in a lot of different ways this year...

on friday morning, i went to the sunrise at the river like i do as often as i can.
i feel like i have photographed every bit of this little road along the river,
yet it calls me back day after day, season after season...

friday, i purposely 'explored' different angles,
and played with my macro lens.
i drove through the field instead of staying on the road, exploring a different section of the floodplain.  all in all, a great friday morning,
thanks to my new word...
 

 

 

 

then, on saturday morning, when i was driving to the river,

again the word 'explore' made its impact. 

i turned around and drove AWAY from the river,

and explored somewhere different for the sunrise.

i used to go to different places all the time but so fell in love with my secret river road that i've spent easily six months going there almost every day. 

by exploring some place different, two days in a row, i found beauty i was missing.

 thank you, my new word-for-2013,

you already are more than i could have hoped for...

a ride to the river, no matter what time of year, is a slice of heaven...

but when the snow changes the background to a simple white

and the birds are willing to gather close, hoping for some snacks,

monday's photo hunt word of the day was TRANSPORTATION...
people that only ocassionally participate went whole hog on this one, with all us of over shooting.
i went looking for a boat pic and found an old train station running along the CT river with a bridge in the distance - so many forms of transportation over so many years. loved it. it truly was a day to move.

the mall

wednesday march 31 was a rough day.
as always, the day started with emails, facebook and the morning news. keeping myself informed...
as the day went on, i felt like i was on a roller coaster of news. apparently, tuesday's mall evacuation in warwick was not because the parking lot and surrounding walls had poor drainage and therefore water had collected from the crazy rains dumping 16 inches of water. no, it wasn't that. the dam on the neighboring river had broken and the river had flooded the area.
so wednesday, i spent hours trying to coordinate getting customers' Easter pics to a different portrait studio and figuring out how to communicate the changes to everybody who needed to know. pain in the neck but not devastating...
then pics of the mall started showing up - on my email, on facebook, on the news...
could that be the mall?? and the hotel i stayed at a couple of weeks ago? omg. the water is 5 feet deep. the mall is an island and there's no way in. based on what i see in the pics, there is also no way back to normal.
on a much smaller scale, i can understand Katrina in a new way. the big losses, the small losses - all losses hurt. i am, like everyone else, grateful that no lives were lost. which leaves me focusing on the other losses... a way of life, a way to make a living and provide for families, homes, memories, vehicles, roads... hard to fathom. my thoughts and prayers go out to all those who are suffering from these floods. may they all find a bridge over these troubled waters...

saturday's word

Time - not an easy thing to photograph. after a few failed attempts, i remembered a very old tree that i used to photograph at the connecticut river. every time i'd see it, i'd always think of all that this tree must have seen over time. so i drove to the river to shoot the tree.
then i saw the single grave along the riverside from 1700's and that seemed even more representative of TIME. such a beautiful place to spend eternity...
